LSFN Hosts Healing Days
Community members and staff gathered at the powwow grounds in Frenchman’s Head for two days of activities for what Chief and Council dubbed Kii Ge Gii Zhigan Healing Days. These days were meant to recognize the hardships LSFN has faced over the past year and inspire people to come together and rebuild.
Over the course of the two days, attendees were able to participate in a number of activities such as painting with Storm Angeconeb, gifts from the moose, moose hide tanning, live music, drumming, face painting, traditional food, medicine pouch making, wood working, tabahon making, as well as mental health supports and resources.
Jordin Tootoo, former NHL player, joined as a keynote speaker to talk about his own struggles with mental health and substance abuse and overcoming those obstacles. After his speech, he met with community members and signed autographs.

The community heard from day 2 keynote speaker, Dr. Peggy Shaughnessy, founder of the RedPath Approach. She has spent her career developing community-based healing programs that address addiction, violence, trauma, and disconnection.
In addition to the keynote speakers, LSFN heard from three locals, Daniel Bottle, Bertha Trout, and Leon Grey, who shared their own stories about sobriety, as well as LSPS Dave Scott and his life journey.
Beautiful weather, fun activities, and traditional ways were able to bring community members together for this important time of healing. Thank you to all volunteers, event planners, speakers, and attendees for making our time together unforgettable.
