About the GGP

The Good Governance Project — Obishikokaang Ogiimaankaawin — began in 2023 to strengthen governance at Lac Seul First Nation.

Working with Chief and Council, community members and a Council-appointed Working Group, the project has focused on strengthening LSFN's governance laws, policies and processes.

Major areas of work have included the development of the Custom Election Law and the Policy and Guidelines for Chief and Council (Governance Manual).

The Good Governance Project supports Lac Seul First Nation's ongoing work toward greater self-governance, accountability and community involvement.

Through this work, LSFN has developed its own Custom Election Law and strengthened the policies and processes that guide Chief and Council.

The Custom Election Law was approved by LSFN voters in February 2026 and received federal approval in June 2026, removing LSFN elections from the Section 74 election provisions of the Indian Act.
