  • Stan Littledeer

    Position Seeking: Chief

    Biography

Booshoo, my name is Stanley Littledeer. I am a lifelong resident of Obishikokaang. I’m married with 3 children and 7 grandchildren. I reside in Kejick Bay. My parents are Sonny and Alice (Bottle) Littledeer. My grandparents were Johnny and Alice (Trout) Littledeer. I’m currently on my healing journey and have lived addiction free for the past 13 years! I’m a survivor of the residential school era, the sixties scoop, and the Day School system. I have an understanding of the negative impacts these policies have. I also volunteer my time with youth and adult initiatives, namely hockey, broomball, and baseball. I’ve successfully obtained my OSSD - grade 12 though 7th Generations Secondary School. It is never too late to attain your diploma. I have served 9 terms in 18 years as a band councillor. I have followed the LSFN Mission and Vision Statements. I understand the negative impacts of the colonial regimes through their legislation of the Indian Act, assimilation policies, and reserves being established. I’m open to learning as education is a lifelong process. I’ll continue to advocate for our people. I am humbled to be nominated. I will continue to strive in the best interests for the people of Obishikokaang. Meegwetch.

    Candidate Statement

I am seeking your endorsement for Chief of LSFN. I have 18 years of experience as a member of the LSFN leadership. I have seen the growth of LSFN over the years. We are a progressive community. The perseverance and resilience of our people is inspiring. We are seen as a positive role model. But as any First Nation, we have issues that need addressing. We will need to advance our family and childcare that focuses on prevention, supporting wellness initiatives that strengthen families, individuals, and community. We need to build our youth, through community driven processes, youth mentoring, and develop education pathways. We are rich in lands and resources however under the colonial governments we are not treated equally. We need to address the gaps like housing, energy, mining, and clean water. We must shift away from the colonial frameworks, policies to our indigenous led self-determination. Meegwetch.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Education - Under Treaty 3 signing by our ancestors is a treaty right. However the government have reneged on their end. Education is essential for our First Nation youth as it drives personal empowerment, community self determination, and provides long term economic prosperity. Our youth will be our future leaders

    • Economic Development -The first nation is a major player /rights holder in our traditional territory. We are partners in transmission lines, forestry, mining and green energy projects (solar panels). We as a FN will need to continue moving forward through partnerships, joint ventures or community owned enterprises.

    • Community Infrastructure/Houses - As our population grows, we have a modest increase in our housing allocation. Our reliance on the council regime to provide adequate amount of housing is not a priority. It is a must to put forward with all stakeholders involved to develop a 5 year/ 10 year plan.

I have been a Band Councillor since 2008. I enjoy fishing, hunting, and teaching the youth about the land and lakes. I like spending time outdoors and helping people. I will continue to work as hard as I can and show up for the communities. I support the communities from search and rescue, funerals, helping through difficult times, supporting youth activities and helping with community events. • Grant Russell Chisel

    Position Seeking: Councillor - FMH

    Biography

My family was from the Minnitaki Lake - Savant Lake, Sturgeon Lake area. My mother’s side (Grays) were in the country NE of Sioux Lookout towards Lake St. Joe and Mishkiigogamang. Lost ½ of our siblings in early part of 60s Scoop.

Education at I.R. Schools, Pelican + Sault Ste. Marie. H.S and College at S.S.M - finished Forestry in 1970.

Moved back to FMH in 1980. Did forestry related jobs for a couple of years, then got on with LSFN as the councillor for FMH for about 24 years. Did most of Administrative and supervisory functions required by myself for about 12 or so years until FMH was allowed more councillors.

    Candidate Statement

Time for all of us LSFN band members to test out the new code. Hope there is a huge turnout!

My original directive from our ancestral advisors had been to make FMH a place where our members would want to return after all the traumas caused by the flooding and events shortly after. A more recent direction was to ensure a more Anishinaabe centred form of governance was implemented.

I think the numbers achieved will give us a good indication of any changes needed.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Elders Issues - Have a centralized group to handle old age issues instead of a bunch of different departments. I think each recognized community should have their own organization, select their representatives and at least have quarterly get togethers.

    • Justice System - I think each tribe should start exploring and instituting their own legal system. A start might be a form of civil codes for our communities and a cooperation style of criminal offence codes. It should lessen the number of aboriginal inmates that pack provincial and federal penal systems

    • Economic Development - I think it’s time to assert more influence on what happens in our traditional homelands and treaty areas. Band membership should be more informed on what each enterprise costs, what it generates. Corporate style financial statements do not mean much to most ordinary band members

  • Kenneth Wesley

    Position Seeking: Councillor - FMH

    Biography

I am a proud member of Lac Seul, and I care deeply about the strength and future of our community. I currently work as Executive Assistant to Chief and Council, where I have gained valuable experience supporting leadership, administration, governance, and community initiatives. I am also a father and family orientated, and much of what motivates me comes from wanting to help build a stronger future for our children and families. Through my work, I have had the opportunity to learn more about the programs, departments, challenges, and opportunities within Lac Seul. Outside of work, I enjoy photography, fitness, spending time outdoors, and being with my family. I believe strong leadership starts with listening, being accountable, working together, and making decisions with the long-term interests of Lac Seul.

    Candidate Statement

I am putting my name forward with the experience I have gained serving as Executive Assistant to Chief and Council. In this role, I have had direct and personal exposure to many of the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing Lac Seul. I have seen how decisions are made, how departments and leadership work together, and how important good communication, accountability, and follow-through are to our Nation. That experience has given me a strong understanding of the work involved and the responsibility that comes with leadership. I know there is still much to learn, and I believe listening to our members must remain at the centre of every decision. If elected, I would bring the knowledge and experience I have gained into the role while continuing to learn, work respectfully with others, and keep the long-term interests of Lac Seul.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Healing Wellness and Community Support - I want to support the continued development of the Wellness Centre and strengthen access to mental health, addictions, prevention, treatment, and aftercare services for our members and families.

    • Housing Opportunities for Families - I want to prioritize housing and supporting infrastructure, especially for young and growing families, while encouraging long-term planning that keeps pace with the future needs of our communities.

    • Strengthening Lac Seul First Nation - I also want to strengthen Lac Seul as an organization through accountability, communication, effective administration, and long-term planning. I believe a strong organization is the backbone of a strong community.

  • Ian Lawson

    Position Seeking: Councillor - KB

    Biography

My name is Ian Lawson and I am running for Kejick Bay council. I grew up in Red Lake and moved to Lac Seul in 2001. My parents are Alex and Mary Lawson. I have 3 brothers and 4 sisters. I live in Kejick Bay with my spouse, Tennille, and our three children (Calum, Emilee and Devin). My three older children (Emmery, Aaron and Chase) live in Frenchmen's Head. I enjoy my time out on the lake by fishing with my family and spending time with them at home. I currently work with the public works department and have been involved with several different projects that have enhanced our community. (ie. fiber optics, water lines, road maintenance). My prior experience was working with Tikinagan Child and Family Services and Lac Seul Prevention for 20 years. Working with these organizations greatly enhanced my overall understanding of social issues. In my spare time, I like to watch hockey and football. I enjoy playing hockey and have been a part of Lac Seul Obish and the Tomahawks.

    Candidate Statement

Lac Seul continues to grow and change. There have been many positive changes, but there are still many issues that affect our community. I am glad that we have our own election code because we need to see different representation. I want to be that different voice to serve in our council. I believe that I have the skills and drive to help better our community by working with others and bringing new ideas to the council level that will greatly improve the way of life for all Lac Seul Band Members. The health of our people is a very important issue to me as my father is currently missing and suffers from generational trauma. As a council member I would make the well-being of all Lac Seul members a priority. Generational trauma is still affecting our members and we need to find solutions to break the cycle.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Quarterly general meetings with Lac Seul Band Members instead of once a year. Lack of transparency has always been an issue and the council needs to keep everyone informed of new updates and to listen to the community members’ opinions/suggestions.

    • Education - LS members have always been disadvantaged when it comes to education. We need to build our own High School and provide more post secondary support than what is offered by NNEC. We need to offer more opportunities for trade school programs and post secondary options for community members.

    • Enhancing existing community services - Right now there are many programs available to on-reserve members. We need to offer these services to off-reserve members as well. We also need to make these existing services more accessible and flexible to everyone including those who work during the day.

  • Maeengan Linklater

    Position Seeking: Councillor Off Reserve

    Biography

Boozhoo! My name is Maeengan Linklater, and I am running for Lac Seul First Nation Council as Off-Reserve councillor, and I am asking for your vote on November 13, 2026. My mother is Pat Ningewance, and I am part of the Ningewance family in Kejick Bay. I grew up in Kejick Bay and attended White Pine Ridge School before my Mom moved us to Winnipeg, where she built a successful career in Anishinaabe language revitalization. As a teenager, I returned home in the summers to work at Mahkwa Lodge and spend time at ‘low’ beach. I have since lived and worked in Winnipeg for more than 30 years while maintaining my connection to Lac Seul. My career has included work in tribal council governance, economic development and off-reserve housing, with a strong focus on community impact. I now want to bring that experience home and put it to work for our people as a Councillor. I am proud of our Nation, our people and our history, and I believe we can continue to grow stronger together because LSFN is home.

    Candidate Statement

The history of Lac Seul reflects values of community, toughness and independence. Growing up in Kejick Bay, I remember seeing people support one another during difficult times. When there was a crisis, people knew what had to be done. Helpers helped, cooks prepared food, and the community worked together. I remember when Kejick Bay had no running water, electricity or road access, and only one telephone. Our people adapted and persevered – we had to be tough to survive. The flooding of our traditional lands forced generations of Lac Seul citizens to adapt to enormous change. Many had to become increasingly self-reliant, including those who left the community to find opportunities elsewhere. Our strength comes from our people, history, and our ability to overcome challenges and that determine our own future. As councillor, I would carry those values forward. I am asking for your vote on November 13, 2026 – miigwech!

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Listen and represent off-reserve members - Identify the needs and priorities of Lac Seul members living off-reserve through planned community consultation, while maintaining connections with on-reserve communities. Bring those priorities to Chief and Council and strengthen communication so all members remain connected to the decisions and opportunities of our Nation.

    • Develop housing solutions for our people - Identify on-reserve and off-reserve housing needs and explore practical solutions, including the feasibility of a Lac Seul revolving housing fund. The goal would be to help more members obtain safe, affordable housing while building assets and opportunities for future generations.

    • Grow Lac Seul's Economy - Support responsible economic development that creates revenue, employment and opportunity for Lac Seul members. Explore local, regional and national opportunities in areas such as tourism, natural resources, renewable energy and other partnerships while ensuring development reflects our values and long-term interests.

  • Marie Lands

Position Seeking: Councillor - Off Reserve

    Biography

I am Marie Lands, with ancestorial ties to Obishikokaang First Nation. My grandfather was a First World War Veteran who enlisted from Lac Seul, a connection that remains part of my family history. I live in Winnipeg and have lived off reserve all my life. For the past 30 years, I have made it my responsibility to reconnect with Lac Seul. I speak our Ojibway language, an important part of my connection to our people and culture. I am a Residential School Survivor and Sixties Scoop Survivor. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work and have worked in Indigenous child welfare and health, including leadership as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Administrative Officer. I am a proud mother of two daughters and grandmother of two grandchildren. My partner and I are especially proud that one of our daughters became a lawyer. My life reflects resilience, family, responsibility, and connection.

    Candidate Statement

My connection to Lac Seul is grounded in strong ancestral ties, community, and responsibility to future generations. I bring more than 30 years’ experience working alongside First Nations in leadership, governance, advocacy, and community development, including work with Obishikokaang in a consultant capacity. I also bring the lived experience of being an off-reserve member and understanding the importance of staying connected to home. I respect all members of Lac Seul, whether they live in the community, in Winnipeg, or elsewhere. Every member contributes to the strength and future of our Nation. I believe representation begins with listening, understanding the issues, communication openly, and following through. I would bring experience, knowledge, accountability, and respect to the Council table, with a commitment to keeping members informed, included, and connected. For me, leadership is about service, responsibility, and strengthening Lac Seul together.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Reconnecting Members to Home - We carry strong ancestral ties that flow from Lac Seul. Reconnection should strengthen relationships to family, community, culture, language, and identity across generations. Our children and grandchildren should know where they come from, where they belong, and that Lac Seul remains home wherever they live.

    • Accountability, Transparency, and Communication - Off-reserve members deserve clear, timey information about Lac Seul decisions, finances, resources, programs, priorities, and opportunities. A strong Communication Strategy will support transparency, regular updates, two-way communication and meaningful input. Accountability means being accessible, listening to members, following through, and clearly reporting actions and progress.

    • Housing, Service, and Advocacy - Lac Seul should strengthen its presence in Winnipeg and focus on practical supports for off-reserve members, including housing, programs, services, and advocacy. A stronger local presence would help members navigate resources, address barriers, access opportunities, and maintain a direct connection to Lac Seul First Nation.

  • Meaghan Masakeyash

Position Seeking: Councillor - Off Reserve

    Biography

My name is Meaghan Masakeyash. I lived in Frenchman’s Head from babyhood until the age of 19, when I moved to Sioux Lookout. Sioux is where I purchased my first home and where I am raising my two sons.

Most of my adult life I spent working for two Tribal Councils in education and health. It wasn’t until very recently (January 2026) that I came back to Lac Seul and started as the Business Development Manager.

From a young age, I’ve always wanted to be involved and to do things for my community. At 16, I served as Youth Councillor/Youth Chief, and that desire to contribute to my community has stayed with me throughout my adult life. Since coming back to Lac Seul, I’ve had the opportunity to become involved again through initiatives like planning the Career Fair and our first annual golf tournament.

Although Lac Seul has and will always be home for me, I understand what it is like to be an off-reserve member and to sometimes feel disconnected. Coming back this year has given me the opportunity to reconnect with my community in a way I hadn’t for many years.

    Candidate Statement

I am running for Off-Reserve Councillor because I want off-reserve members to feel represented and connected to Lac Seul, regardless of where they live.

I know firsthand that when you live away from the community, it can be easy to feel disconnected or out of the loop. Information about programs, services and opportunities is not always easy to find, and sometimes it can feel like you need to know the right person to know what is happening.

I believe an Off-Reserve Councillor should help bridge that gap. I want to listen to members, make sure their perspectives are represented in Council discussions and decisions, and make sure information flows both ways.

I am willing to listen and do the work if the membership chooses me to represent them.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Off-reserve members should have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect them. I want to hear directly from members about what matters to them and make sure their perspectives, concerns and ideas are represented in discussions and decisions.

    • I want to strengthen the bridge between Lac Seul and members living off reserve by making information easier to access. Programs, services, funding, events and other opportunities should be clearly communicated and readily available to members, rather than depending on who you know or where you happen to hear about them.

    • As Lac Seul continues to grow and develop, I want to strengthen connections among all members and create more opportunities for us to come together as one community. No matter where members live, we are all part of Lac Seul

  • Steve Medicine

Position Seeking: Councillor - Off Reserve

    Biography

My name is Steven Medicine and I am a proud member of LSFN. I’m a father of 5 and grandfather of 1 and I also care for foster children. My roots in LS go back many generations. My late grandmother was Nancy Williams (Capay). Her parents were the late Thomas Capay and Louise Capay. My father is Dave Williams “Mooney.” I grew up mostly in Thunder Bay but Lac Seul has always been home to me. I regularly come home to visit family and friends. I take part in Treaty Days, Homecoming, fish derbies and camping on land where my ancestors once lived. I have worked with Indigenous youth since 2015. I started as a house councillor and later became Team Leader at Pelican Falls Centre. Today I work as a youth care leader in Thunder Bay, helping high school students who leave their home for school.

    Candidate Statement

I am not running to create division or tell people what they need. I want to listen to our members. I want to hear to your ideas and concerns and bring them forward to Chief and Council. I believe our new election law gives us an opportunity for change and gives off reserve members a strong voice. If elected, one idea I would like Council to look at is having a Lac Seul service location in Thunder Bay. It could help members living away from home get information and services and stay connected to Lac Seul, our Elders, and our culture.

    Top 3 Priorities

    • Better communication and services for off reserve members, receiving information as soon as possible and knowing what programs and services are available. I would also like LS to consider a service location in Thunder Bay so members living there have better access to information and services.

    • Listening, Transparency, and accountability – I’ll listen to members and bring their ideas to Chief and Council. I believe C&C needs to work together and be accountable to our members. Members should be kept informed about important decisions and have a better understanding of how our community money is being spent.

    • Bringing our members home and keeping culture connected - helping off reserve members reconnect with LS through visits home, time on the land, Elders, family and traditional activities. We can also bring Elders, stories, teachings, and cultural activities to members in Thunder Bay so our connection to LS stays strong.
